Re-reading great books! (and a contest)

I'm re-reading Jodi Picoult's ''Plain Truth'', which I read years ago and loved. It's about a young Amish girl who gets pregnant out of wedlock. The baby is found dead only hours after birth. If you haven't read it, I recommend it as one of Jodi's best books. I've liked many of her other ones but this one tops them all for me.

The reason I'm re-reading it though is because our book club is reading it this month. I'm enjoying it second time around and it feels like re-aquainting myself with a good friend. But re-reading books is not something I do much of. More so due to a lack of time and a mammoth TBR pile than anything.

This got me wondering if there were any books other people loved so much the first time that they still read over again and again. I know there are a few on my list of books I want to read again one day. Some that stand out are:

  • THREE WISHES by Liane Moriarty
  • I HAVE A BED MADE OF BUTTERMILK PANCAKES by Jaclyn Moriarty.
  • MARRYING DAISY BELLAMY by Susan Wiggs.
  • MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL by Dorothy Koomson
One day I'll get round to them again. In the meantime, I'm wondering what books you have that you've either read more than once or want to read again one day.

AND because I'm a dill and ordered TWO copies of the new Mills and Boon Loves Anthology today, I'm running my first contest. Anyone who leaves a comment on this post will go in the draw to win my extra copy :) I for one am so excited about reading this book. It contains my good friend Leah's debut book ''Secrets and Speed-dating'' and also Aimee Carson's debut, which I'm hanging out to read. Not to mention books by super woman Maisey Yates and the talented Barbara Wallace.

Really looking forward to reading your answers and perhaps adding MORE books to my TBR pile...

Hope you enjoy it, Rachael!

I re-read Pride & Prejudice every year. I ADORE Jane Austen.

Hi Rach! I've read Linda Howard's Son of The Morning several times and probably will again. I love it! Wuthering Heights gets a good workout, especially on cold, wet winter weekends (just like when I first devoured it when I was 15). Gosh, so many. Lots of SEP and Nora's trilogies as well - the Born In trilogy and the Sisters Island trilogy.

Yay for the contest, Rach!!

I re-read One Summer by Karen Robards every few years, and also Heart of Fire by Linda Howard. Oh, and Wild at Heart by Patricia Gaffney :) It's been a long time though...after I read Mills & Boon Loves... will definitely be picking one of those old favourites up again :)

My re-reads are mostly Anne Stuart's and Rosemary Rogers'.. Gosh..the emotions and the "forbidden thrills" ...it gets me every time :)

Thanks for the lovely contest, Rach :) Definitely count me in (if entering from Canada is okay) ;)

I have re-read the Stephanie Plum series to DEATH! It's caused an unhealthy Morelli addiction. But I never tire of books 3 - 9.

All of SEP's book are well worn out as well, especially the Chicago Stars series.

Happy release day you fabulous girls! I love rereading books. It's very comforting. At the moment I've just finished re-reading all my favourite Georgette Heyer. Devil's Cub....sigh...

Hi Rachael, I love the 7-book Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Claire, a British Army nurse, time travels through standing stones back to 18th century Scotland and falls for Jacobite rebel, Jamie.

Each book is so long by the time you've read the whole series you can pretty much go back and start again (and I have done, more than once!).

Also can re-read The Bronze Horseman trilogy by Paullina Simons til the cows come home. And Jane Eyre gets a regular dust off.

Oh I reread books a lot. Sometimes I do it because I know that i dont have a lot of time and when its something I have read before I can take my time reading it in snippets...as I know already how it turns out. I have a few authors I revisit a lot. Karen Marie Moning-All, especially the highlander books. Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter books. And old favorites like Judith McNaught and Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love SEP's Nobody's baby but Mine. It makes me laugh. For a good look at the classics I love Jane Austin. I have an anthology of all her books, but my favorite will always be Persuasion. I love me some Capt. Wentworth

Super contest Rach:) Must confess I'm with Aimee - Pride and Prejudice has to be picked up at least once a year. As for the BBC series with Colin Firth....that warrants a revisit twice a year:)

OMG, Melissa, did you say Colin Firth and P&P!?! One of my top favorite movies of all time.

Yeah you for a contest :)

I'd love to re-read my favourite books but alas, I barely have enough time to get through the books on my TBR pile.

I'm a little jealous of Aimee because if I had the time, I'd re-read P&P :)

Rach, I haven't read any of the books on your list (or the authors) - although I don have Susan Wiggs on my TBR.

I still reread the Anne of Green Gables series, all of Dick Francis' novels, the Harry Potter series, anything by David Eddings, Nora's trilogies and JD Robb. Gosh, thinking about it, kinda amazing I ever read anything new, lol.

Oh, and Melissa, I watched P&P (the Colin Firth one) for the first time last month and *loved* it - that will definitely be a re-watch!

Hungry as the Sea, by Wilbur Smith is my most re-read, Rach. But Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre comes a close second!!

And then there's Nora's books...

Thank you everyone for your comments. I REALlY shouldn't ask about books cos whenever I do, my TBR list grows! And it really doesn't need to.

Am a HUGE P&P fan here too. The book is a timeless classic romance and the film with Colin Firth - phwoar!!

Louise - I've never read Linda Howard but Leah keeps telling me I must.

Ju - I'll be happy to post to Canada if you win :)

Joanna - big Stephanie Plum fan here too. But I sadly haven't read the last couple. MUST remedy that ASAP!

Jackie - you know I've NEVER read a Georgette Heyer book. Hangs head in shame!

E.J. - I've been hearing good stuff about the Bronze Horseman series forever. MUST check it out :)

Dawn - interesting about reading in snippets. I'd never thought of that but love the idea.I've only read one SEP and wasn't that impressed but think I must be the ONLY person, so I MUST check her out again. Will try the one you mentioned!

Melissa - a girl after my own heart!

Joanne - I hear ya on the time. If only it grew on trees!

Anita - I LOVE Anne of Green Gables. Must read that again one of these days. And which Susan Wiggs do you have?

Helene - haven't read any of those, will have to check them out!

(Deleted my other comments to make just one, sorry.)
I hope you enjoy it! Can't wait to hear how it is.
I re-read Lord of the Rings every year, as nerdy as that may be. :]
(For the record, I'm not trying to be a creep or anything, it's just my name really is Rachel Bailey.)

I used the www.random.org tool to generate the winner but stupidly included Aimee and Leah! Aimee won the book but as she already has a copy, I drew another time.

And the winner of the M&B Loves Anthology is HELENE YOUNG!!! Congrats Helene!

Thank you everyone for entering and that was sooooooooooo much fun, I'm going to be sure to buy two books again in future and have more contests!
