All I want for Christmas...

Is an e-reader!!

Question is which one!?

Do I buy an Apple iTouch, which can do other things as well - as if I need the added diversion of games, music and the like.

Do I buy a Sony eReader (and if so, which model) when I can't actually buy one in Australia? I really like the look of these and as I really only want them to read on, think this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Or do I go the new Eco Reader which is one of the few readers available in Australia!?

Decisions... decisions....

So tell me faithful blog readers, who reads ebooks? If you have an ereader, I'd love to hear about your experiences!?

I'm still terribly old-fashioned: I read ebooks on my laptop.

I'm in South Africa where we have a similar problem with availability of ebook readers.

I'll be keeping close watch on what you decide, so that maybe next Christmas ...

Rach, same problem in NZ. I read stuff on my laptop but an ereader would be great.

Keep us posted huh? Apparently Kindles are available to overseas buyers now but sadly not to NZers. No idea why. Anyway, what about one of those? The only problem is that they charge a premium for the books or so I've heard.

Well I'm totally totally archaic I still read books not an ebook in sight. But Rach - about to get my self an i-phone, that's gonna be my christmas pressie to myself.

I'm with Janette. Although theres no iphone insight. I would offer my thoughts on the e-reader but today I blew up my DVD recorder, both CD drives on my computer and the player in my car so I think it's best if I keep a two metre distance from the electronics... baaaaddd mondays ;)

I take my hat off to you guys Romy and Jackie - I HATE reading on my computer!

News is I caved last night and bought a Sony Touch Edition Reader on ebay! They ship to Oz and after a great chat last night with some writing buddies (one who has a Sony and uses it in Australia with no probs) I decided I NEEDED one!

It's supposed to be a chrissy pressie from Craig and the boys, so I'll have to wait to give you a report though :)

Congratulations on embarking with an ereader. You'll never look back, I promise you. And it won't be the last ereader you ever buy.

I've been using my Pocket PC (about palm size) as an ereader for about 5 years now. Techinically it's not a dedicated ereader, but I like my devices to be multifunctional. Thought I would miss the paper book versions, but the transition was remarkably easy. If you already use a PC to read your books, an ereader makes sense. You'll find you can read in bed in the dark lying down, carry around hundreds of books and if you don't like something, you can switch easily to another. And it all fits in a small bag.

I don't think you'll be able to wait for Christmas :-).

Is that all you want Rach. :)

I rarely read full novels on my computer,I prefer the hard copy in my hand.
But I have read short stories and the like on my laptop.

I have a Kindle. I love it so much. You really won't ever look back. Having ALL your books with you ALL the time is so amazing. I never realized how much I waited around till I got my Kindle and now I get to pull it out and read a bit when I'm waiting around. And, I can stick my WIPs on it and edit that way. Much easier on the eyes and cheaper than printing copies all the time!
